Weak passwords are just one way in
Weak passwords are only one way in. Unpatched software and poor configuration are just as common. Get a free passive scan of your website and see what an attacker would.

What this checks
- Whether the password is at least 12 characters long.
- Which character types it uses: lowercase, uppercase, numbers and symbols.
- Whether it matches a short list of very common passwords, or contains repeated characters or simple sequences like abc, 123 or qwe.
- An estimated time to crack it offline at 10 billion guesses per second, and a strength rating from very weak to very strong. All of this runs in your browser.
Why it matters
Weak and reused passwords on email, banking and admin accounts remain one of the simplest ways for attackers to get in. A strength check makes the difference between a short, predictable password and a long one easy to see. Because the check runs entirely in your browser, nothing you type is sent to Vanorika or stored.
How to read the result
- Length matters more than anything else. Each extra character multiplies the number of guesses needed.
- Very weak is shown for common passwords whatever their length, because attackers try those lists first.
- The crack time assumes an offline attack on a stolen password hash. Online login pages are usually slower to attack, but you should not rely on that.
- The estimate is a guide, not a guarantee. A password based on your name, school or organisation can be guessed far faster than its length suggests.
How to fix what it finds
- Use at least 12 characters, and more for email, banking and admin accounts.
- Use a different password for every account, so one breach does not unlock the others.
- Store passwords in a reputable password manager rather than a notebook or spreadsheet.
- Turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered, so a stolen password alone is not enough.

Questions people ask
Is it safe to type my real password into a strength checker?
This checker runs entirely in your browser and does not send what you type anywhere. As a general habit, it is still wise to test a password similar in style rather than the exact one you use.
How long should a password be?
At least 12 characters, and longer for important accounts. A passphrase of several unrelated words is long, strong and easier to remember than a short jumble.
Do I need symbols in my password?
Symbols help a little, but length helps far more. A long password made of words is stronger than a short one with a symbol added at the end.
